FiberTite Roofing Membranes Have One of the Highest Cool Roof Ratings in the Industry

Installing a cool roof - or green roofing system - with high solar reflectivity (SR) and infrared emittance (IE) can be one of the most effective ways to increase a building’s energy efficiency. The CRRC rates FiberTite® roofing membranes at 83 SR and 85 IE, one of the highest scores in the industry. FiberTite roofing membranes are also ENERGY STAR^® compliant.

These cool roof properties can deliver significant energy savings – in the U.S., annual cost reduction is typically between 7 and 20 cents per square foot, according to an energy saving model developed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

In addition to solar reflectivity and infrared emittance, other variables in the DOE model include R-value, summertime cost of electricity, air conditioner efficiency, natural gas cost, heating system efficiency and electricity demand charged during cooling season. The model will calculate the approximate energy savings for 245 U.S. cities.

For example, if you select Atlanta, a savings of 17 cents per square foot, per year will be returned. Even two cities with considerably cooler and cloudier climates, Chicago and Cleveland, show significant savings – 10 cents and 9 cents, respectively.

The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) is an independent organization that was created in 1998 to develop accurate methods to evaluate and label the solar reflectance and thermal emittance of roofing products. The CRRC system was designed to provide building code bodies, energy service providers, architects, specifiers, property owners and community planners with accurate radiative property data on roof surfaces that may improve the energy efficiency of buildings while positively impacting the environment.
